In a taught session for materials and process we were shown marking out techniques onto metal something i had no experience of. Before the session i wouldn't have known how to approach doing this and would have probably tried using a pencil or a felt tip. I was introduced to a variety of new tools for marking which could be used not only on metal but also wood and plastic and as a plan of action with this subject incorporate some of these new tools into my next practical work.
What surprised me most from the session was that a lot of Students using the Steel rule in secondary school for the first time do not know that 0 is the flat end of the ruler? its simple, basic things like that you don't necessarily think you will have to tell students in a DT lesson. As well as not understanding that 1cm=10mm, although admittedly i sometimes struggling working in MM.
